Week 19

Monday February 10, 2020

Monday, Sorella Barnes and I got our call for transfers and we thought we were going to be staying together for another one because President had told us that we were going to, but he changed his mind. I'm staying here in Palermo for another transfer and my companion is going to Malta, which is an island off of Sicily. Monday was a crazy day with a lot of emotions so that night after calling the family I got a blessing from one of our Zone Leaders here. He gave me an amazing priesthood blessing and I was able to feel a lot better after that.
Tuesday was a bitter sweet day. We had our last District Council with our district. Anziano Tingy and Anziano Lish and Sorella Barnes were all leaving from our district. We had a great council and then went and took some pictures. Afterwards we had district pranzo (lunch) together where we ate some pizza. I'm really going to miss them a lot, I made really good friends with them. Anziano Tingy and Anziano Lish have been here since I first got to Palermo. I'm sad to be losing those friends but it's good to see them doing well. We ran some errands and then came home so Sorella Barnes could pack. Later we had English Course and she said her good byes there, English Course is always so much fun. Then we went down and visited Arlinda, that lives below us and she is just the cutest lady ever. She's the one that calls us her daughters and we call her momma. She really is the sweetest lady. That night Sorella Barnes and I worked on our books from the transfer, it has pictures and notes and things that will help us remember our transfer together.
Wednesday, we woke up and got Sorella Barnes to the train station by 9 am and then I went with the Zone Leaders and they took me over to the Palermo 2 area so I could be with the Sorelle there. They were having their district council that day so I just chilled there at the church. I had the companionship phone and there were a couple of calls that came in and I was the only there to answer them, so I did. It was pretty cool because I was able to handle the phone calls and do them myself. It was actually a blessing in disguise, that even though the language is still hard for me and I have sooo much to learn, I was still able to make it through those phone calls. Then we went and had pranzo with a man that they are teaching and then went and said some goodbyes because one of the Sorelle from the Palermo 2 area was leaving as well. Afterwards, we headed over to Bagheria, which is a little town up from Palermo, and we had cena (dinner) there. I was VERY full that day because I had a pranzo and a cena appointment and they are both very big meals. We had another late night because we were helping Sorella Roberry to leave in the morning.
Thursday was transfer day and it was crazy! We got up at 5:30 and headed to the train station to send off Sorella Roberry and also a couple of other missionaries left on the trains. I am going to miss them so much! After that we went and ate some breakfast and then went back to the station to pick up a Sorella. We took her bags back to my apartment and then Sorella Allen and I went back to her apartment to prepare for her new companion, which is a greenie (new missionary). We cleaned the house and then I talked with Sorella Allen a lot and tried to comfort her and give her some advice. She is really nervous about getting a greenie, but I think she is going to make an awesome trainer. We went to English Course and then back to the station and picked up the other missionaries. I was so happy because Sorella Fangu, one of my friends from the MTC, was coming down here. And since her companion and my companion are both STL's (Sister Training Leaders) they were headed up to Rome for a training meeting so Sorella Fangu and I were going to be on an exchange together for two days. I was really, really excited for that.
Friday, we woke up and took one of the Sorelle to the train station and then Sorella Fangu and I went to Casa di Nina. We got there around 9 and taught them the Baby Shark song, taught them some English, and played games with them. I love spending my Friday mornings with them! They are all so sweet and have such strong spirits. Then we went home and did some personal study and then had a lesson with a lady we are teaching named Aneze; we did some Book of Mormon and Come Follow Me studies with her. Then we had pranzo and did more studies. After that we went and found some less active members. At the end of the night, I introduced Sorella Fangu to her first arancini and conolo here in Sicily. That was so much fun. We really enjoyed spending time together and catching up since we haven't really spent any time together since we were in the MTC. It was such a blessing.

Saturday was another fun day with Sorella Fangu. We did studies in the morning and then headed out to visit a lady named Rosana that we're teaching. We talked about the Restoration with her and then headed out to do a little grocery shopping. On the way back we rode the bus and we split up so we could talk to people. I sat by an old man that was 88 years old, he and I had a conversation on the bus ride back home. That was a tender mercy from the Lord, to show me that even though I couldn't understand some things or respond to some things I was able to have a pretty good conversation with him. That was awesome! It helped me to feel like I have been improving, even though it is hard for me to see. Then we had pranzo, studies, and finding more less actives. Afterwards we got Sorella Fangu her first brioche, which is like a sweet roll with gelato in it. Then we went to the church and did some of our technology stuff that we've been asked to do here. Then at 10:30 my new comp came in so it was another late night.
Sunday was a busy, crazy day. Sorella Fangu and Sorella Frankum are going to Sciacca, and on Sunday the buses don't leave as often so they came to church with us. After church we had to run them over to the center station to a bus and it was so crazy because we were carrying all of their luggage. We barely made the train leaving from our area to the center station and then we had like 10 minutes to get them to their bus. When we found out where the bus was, none of ticket booths were open so they weren't able to buy a ticket. We talked to the man on the bus and luckily he was nice enough to let them get on and then stop to get $$ for a ticket a couple stops from there. It was definitely a blessing from the Lord. Then my companion and I headed over to have a pranzo appointment with a cute family in our ward. It was a lot of fun. We ate pasta al forno and a broccoli mixture with cheese and sausage, it was really good. I love spending time with their family, it makes me feel at home. I was able to interact and talk a lot more than I usually do so that was a big blessing as well to see that the bits and pieces of the language that I'm learning are helping and I'm able to talk more than I have been. This week I have had a lot of little blessings here and there from the Lord, showing me that I still have a lot to improve and there are still a lot of things that I don't know but I am learning, and it is coming but just very slowly.
This week was crazy with transfers and everything else so hopefully next week we will be able to get back on more of a schedule.

Love ya,
Sorella Acton
