Week 18 Terrasini

Monday February 3, 2020

This week was crazy. We met with a lot of investigators and less actives this week. The highlight of the week was going to Terrasini, a town where I have ancestors from. It was so incredible and so beautiful there. I feel really blessed to have had the opportunity to go there. Also, this week we had a dinner appointment with a couple from our ward and it was a lot of fun to get to know them better. We also were able to go up to Monreale and have pronzo one day up there with a member from our ward. Friday we went to Casa de Nina, the house where handicap adults go to spend the day. We were able to teach them the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" which was really cute to watch them do. I just love them all so much. This Sunday was Fast Sunday and that was a good day. There were some really good testimonies shared and we were able to have one of our investigators come to church. It seemed like the focus of the testimonies was a lot on the Book of Mormon which was really cool because of the invitation that the Prophet has given us of reading the Book of Mormon more to prepare ourselves for the General Conference coming up in April. I got transfer calls today and I will be staying in Palermo for at least one more transfer. I am getting a new companion because my companion is being transferred to Malta, which is an island off of Italy. It is super exciting for her, but I am definitely going to miss her. I wanted to be with her for another transfer, but I am grateful for the time we had together. It's so cool the friendships you can make while on a mission with each companion.
Today for P-day we went to Cefalu, which is a town about an hour away by train. We were with some other sisters that are serving down here because one of them is going home this week and we wanted to spend some time with her before she leaves.
This week I was having a little bit of a hard week, just being more emotional than usual. And actually, my beautiful mother sent me a devotional that was given at BYU-Idaho. And that talk was so incredible and really, really helped me. Some parts that I liked from it were that we truly are a work in progress and we aren't going to be perfect in this life. The one part that I really liked was an analogy that the speaker gave. She said "When we plant a rose seed in the the earth, we notice that it is small but we do not criticize it as rootless and stemless, we treat it as a seed giving it the water and nourishment required of a seed. When it first shoots up out of the earth, we don't condemn it as immature and underdeveloped, nor do we criticize the buds for not being open when they appear. We stand and wonder at the process taking place and give the plant the care it needs at each stage of its development. The rose is a rose from the time it is a seed until the time it dies, within it all times it contains its whole potential. It seems to be constantly in the process of change yet at each moment, at each stage it is perfectly all right as it is. Just as we would never expect a rose to develop from a seed to maturity automatically, we can't expect our own process of becoming to yield instant results." I loved that so much because that is how I feel a lot of the time; I want things to come more quickly and I get down on myself when I don't see that growth right away. But it's not going to come right away and I need to be patient with myself. We truly are a work in progress. I wish I could just quote the whole entire talk, to be honest, it was so good!! There was one more quote that I really liked. She says; "President Ezra Taft Benson testified that the Lord is pleased with every effort even the tiny daily ones in which we strive to become more like Him." I loved this talk and it was just what I needed to help me.
This week has been a crazy one and next week will be too because of transfers and getting a new companion.

Love ya
